mission style
ironic use of mustache and/or pink has gone beyond irony and simply is. it surrounds you. and it is usually accompanied by pants that are fairly snug fitting at the cuff, converses, and a fixed gear bike. hipster extravaganza.

melancholy
So many things happen in a week or two that I must be forgiven for seeming melancholy at the moment. It was actually filled with lots of milestones and fun.
I think my move and settling in is officially complete. I got my couch, my internet and finally bought the fixed gear bike off of skot that he's been telling me about since my arrival. The bike has been amazing. I've been going out at lunch and after work and just returned from looping up and down valencia for a bit just because it is so fun and freeing to be zooming along on that light little bike.
I also finally sold my car! Title signed over, check in account. No longer an automobile owner. No more tickets, no more car washes, no more dmv.
I also started hanging out with people from work. After 7 weeks, it suddenly all happened at once -- four distinct groups from different parts of the company on different occasions. It's a new thing for me to be at a company so large and so diverse that I don't even know half of the people working there -- I don't even recognize them from the halls when I see them out! I've hung out with some of the younger guys from the graphics department who like to smoke, draw, and talk. I've hung out with 2 pan departmental groups who are party people. I've also hung out with a group that's more late 20's-early 30's and more dinner party orientated.
I've had a lot more fun with the andy/lindsay/houseku group and with alex/skot crew. Been to new places, met new people, seen new parts of town! If I had slowed down enough to write this earlier, it might have been ecstatic! but I just returned from a camping trip with some friends from work and their wives and girlfriends and it left me a little sad because it was so reminiscent of a life that is no longer mine. And it's not that I want it to be mine either. I wasn't entirely comfortable in that zone. Better to head back to single land or solitude land. For once it was me as the passenger in the back with a couple when most of my life has had been of one of the first two wheels. Beautiful countryside though. Waterfalls and Estuaries in Mendecino. And now I'm back home and comfy in my little apartment all set up, with laundry to do and floors to sweep and a puppy to hang out with. And tomorrow is another day.
Still shellshocked and a bit damaged in the relationship department, I feel like I have a bachelor attitude to the whole thing -- just want to hang out, have fun, and not be in any situations that vaguely smack of complication.
